History

Cavan-Monaghan Township is located in Peterborough County, and has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. The township was formed in 1818 as a result of a land grant given to the Irishman John Cavanagh. By the mid-19th century, the area had become an important hub for agriculture, with fertile soils and a growing population of farmers. The construction of the Port Hope and Peterborough Railway in the 1850s brought further growth and development to the township. Over the years, Cavan-Monaghan has continued to grow and evolve, becoming a diverse community with a strong agricultural heritage and a commitment to preserving its natural beauty and historic charm.
