History

Douro-Dummer is a township located in the Peterborough County. The area was first settled in the early 1800s by immigrants from Europe, primarily from Ireland and England. The township was officially established in 1998, as a result of the amalgamation of the townships of Douro and Dummer. The township has a rich agricultural history, with early settlers relying on farming to sustain themselves. As the region developed, the logging industry became a major economic driver, and the abundance of natural resources led to the establishment of several sawmills in the area. Today, Douro-Dummer is a thriving community that maintains its agricultural roots while also embracing modern development and infrastructure.
